PSYCHIATRIC CARE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Telemedicine

What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the practice of medicine using technology to deliver care at a distance. A physician in one location uses a HIPAA Compliant telecommunications infrastructure to deliver safe and secure care to a patient at a distant site.

What are some benefits of Telemedicine?

No transportation time or costs

When you see Dr. Bell or Kaitlyn Averett, APRN on your mobile device or computer, you can save money on gas, parking, and public transportation. Even better, you don’t waste time traveling or risk running into a traffic jam that makes you late for your appointment, or worse, late getting back to work.

No need to take time off of work

Speaking of work, video visits largely remove the need to take time off. You can simply schedule your visit during a break, or before or after work. You can be anywhere that offers sufficient privacy. You can comply with your provider's follow-up instructions and maintain your health without missing a day of work or wasting your precious paid time off.

Eliminate child or elder care issues

Many have the responsibility for caring for children or older adults. Finding alternative care so that you can see Dr. Bell or Kurt Moss can be difficult and expensive. Bringing them along can be stressful or impractical. Fortunately, telemedicine solves this challenge by allowing you to see your provider while upholding your family responsibilities.

Better Health

When you are able to see your provider as often as you need to, without the challenges of getting into the office, you can practice better management of your medication, lifestyle, and any chronic conditions you might have.

What are some precautions of Telemedicine?

In-person patient-doctor visits are clearly most valuable and necessary in most circumstances. The power of face-to-face, human interaction with your provider is by far the most effective way to deliver psychiatric care.

Telemedicine is best used to supplement these visits – to do simple check-ins with patients and make sure everything is going well. For minor adjustments to medication treatment, an in-person visit with an established patient is often not absolutely needed. In those cases, telemedicine can save the patient, the doctor, and the healthcare system time and money.

How expensive is a Telemedicine visit?

For our private pay and out of network patients, the cost of a telemedicine visit would be the same as an in-office visit.
